The terrorist attacks and increasing identity frauds brought about for rapid and precise personal identification and verification. In this context, biometrics, which comprises methods for uniquely recognizing humans based on physiological or behavioral traits, has emerged as the key technology for personal identification and verification. In this paper, we give a brief overview of the major applications of biometrics across the world.
