Recent advancement in the field digital electronics, nanotechnology and micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS) lead to the development of low cost Wireless Sensor Network that involves distributed sensors. This survey paper aims at reporting an overview of Wireless Sensor Network technologies, main applications and standards and evolutions. We present a snapshot of the recent deployed sensor network applications and intend to spark the research challenges associated with such applications.
