Abstract: 

The rise in information technology has revolutionarized the world into a cyber world. The cyber world is no different from the real world. The cyber world consists of cyber space which includes computers, internet, world wide web, mobiles, servers, storage space etc. Rules and regulations governing cyber space is known as Cyber Law.

Indian Cyber Law comprises majorly of Information Technology Act 2000. Today, almost everything that is digital is covered under this law be it computers, computer systems, communication devices, information or data in electronic form. The IT Act has also bought amendments to various existing laws like Banking Laws, Evidence Laws etc.

In the cyber world, there are certain rights which commonly are referred to as Intellectual Property Rights. These rights are something similar to human rights in the real world. They play a key role in protecting digital assets which are crucial for business entities. Copyrights, Trademarks, Patents are some of the examples of Intellectual Property.

Various new guidelines and parameters have now been defined under the Cyber Law. For instance, while handling, storing, processing sensitive personal information or data, reasonable security practices and procedures need to be adopted. Despite not having an exclusive data protection law, certain provisions have been added along with some rules, regulations that have thrown light on a data protection regime. This paper examines the various aspects of Cyber Legal System.
