Abstract:

CSR as a concept has undergone drastic changes in nomenclature to match the varying orientation of the term and so the term has undergone significant evolutionary development. Corporate Social Responsibility has become an important part and its inclusion in every company has become extremely vital. Every entity that takes from the earth should respectfully give back to it, it is the responsible duty of all of us. There is way too much information on global warming and eco-critical issues to ignore this problem any longer. And doing the minimum to simply concede to societies demand for excellence will no longer suffice.Automobile sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the Indian economy and its effect on the environment and citizens can’t be ignored.

Thus this paper takes into account 30 automobile companies in India and analyses CSRinitiatives being taken by them and then ranks them on the basis of self prepared corporate social responsibility index and then compares them with the GRI G3 and MCA guidelines.

The analysis shows that there is not much significant difference in the rankings of top 5 companies undergoing CSR when evaluated through GRI G3,MCA and self prepared CSRDI. Two companies namely Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd and Tata Motors Ltd rank high in all the three indices.

Although India has entered or taken a transformational change by involving into newCSR initiatives, but still a lot has to be done in this area.
