Electric power quality (PQ) is an aspect of power engineering that has been with us since the inception of power systems. Due to increased use of various power electronics based loads and / or microprocessor based controlled loads in deregulated power system, power quality is becoming an important and challenging issue for the power engineers. The power quality problem causes interruptions to the sensitive electrical or electronic equipment and results in very expensive consequences. PQ disturbances / events cover a broad frequency range with significantly different magnitude variations and can be non-stationary, thus, accurate techniques are required to investigate these events / disturbances. This paper presents a brief overview of different techniques used for PQ investigation.
