Abstract:
In this paper, we have proposed the design of an Intelligent and Self Sufficient Road Roller System. The system aims to detect pit holes in the road, fills them with sand and levels the extra sand. The whole system consists of two configurations namely ROBOT 1 & ROBOT 2.
ROBOT 1 detects the pit holes using IR sensors and fills sand in them. The ROBOT 2 levels the extra sand by rolling over the just filled pit hole. A leveller and roller are attached to ROBOT 2 to perform their subsequent roles. A buzzer informs the ROBOT 2 that ROBOT 1 has finished its task. While ROBOT 1 is autonomous in nature, ROBOT 2 can be controlled manually, from any remote location, by a Computer/Laptop via RF Signals.
There are some other features also which intend to make the system self-sufficient and reliable. A Solar Panel can be installed as an alternative source of power supply. A Weight or Pressure Sensor can be used to inform the authorities about the quantity of sand. This will ensure that the system never runs out of sand and works on its own without any halts. To send this information, the system can use GSM (to issue alerts via SMS) and GPS (to get the system’s current location). GSM provides other features like switching the system ON/OFF remotely and two way communication. A camera can be installed for continuous monitoring of the system and its surroundings.
