Abstract:

Nowadays, usage of internet connection and multimedia system has increased, because of this image compression and their securities become an important issue in digital electronics. Medical images are stored in Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for various purposes. These medical images will be in large size, so it occupies more space and while sending these images through network, it uses more bandwidth. So, various compression techniques are applied on these medical images. Providing security and integrity is essential for medical image as it used for telediagnosis purpose and insurance claim purpose. It is required to ensure that any unauthorized person should not do any modification or try to make any malicious attempts. The medical images can be protecting by embedding the data of a particular patient into an image. Various LSB (Least Significant Bit) methods like LSB Modification, MNEB (Maximum Number of Embedded Bits), ISB (Intermediate significant bits) and n-LSB Planes are the methods used to compress and provide security for medical image and this methods are compared by using parameters such as PSNR, MSE and NCC values. After comparison study of these methods we found out some advantages and disadvantages of these methods. So we defined the technique which not only reduces the size of an image but also provides more security by using concept ROI (Region of Interest) and RONI (Region of Non Interest).Edge detection and MBR (Modified Bit Replacement) methods are applied on ROI and RONI part of the image respectively to make secure significant part of an image.
