Abstract:

Due to exponential increase in the network traffic the congestion is becoming a complex phenomenon. Random Early Detection algorithm is designed for reducing congestion by stemming packet loss. But when the number of sources becomes very large, it results into high packet loss. In the beam of this observation a modification in the existing RED algorithm is done which helped to reduce the packet loss rate for large number of traffic flows. Even though some modifications are done, this experimentation still keeps the basic idea of RED intact. In this paper we have focused on reducing the packet loss without considering the average queue utilization. The  experimentation is done on responsive flows only.
